Did anyone else notice how her voice changes from scene to scene? In some scenes, she sounds very much like the real Thatcher: robust and assertive. But in other scenes she sounds like a tired and parched lady in her 90s. Gillian did a great job with the acting, yes, but her voice work was inconsistent and I think that may be why opinions are so divided about her performance

I know the show takes a lot of liberties (for instance, Gillian Anderson's Thatcher is much more likable than the real that's saying something lol), but if Elizabeth treated Thatcher with even half the amount of disdain that was on the show, it has increased my respect and liking toward Elizabeth by quite a lot. Thatcher was an absolute monster.

The attention to detail is great. At 7:55 the Queen disengages her eyes. This serves in two ways, at least from my experience as a Brit. First, to avert the eyes away as a respect to the vulnerability of what's being said. However, to also draw attention away (she looks towards the flowers) so as to not become emotional and maintain her stiff upper lip and composure. You can see the Queen does feel for Thatcher though and breaks slightly at 8:05. Of course, she also gives Thatcher recognition later on too.

The crown (and Netflix) has cleverly white washed the violent colonial legacy of the British Monarchy and racists such as Churchill and Mountbatten. Colonialism was as brutal as Hitler. But hey as long those who died were poor people of color, guess it doesn't matter...

Hmmm, Meryl Streep did a great job getting to know and deliver the essence of Margaret Thatchers character. Gillian (in my opinion) is doing too much of Meryl Streep imitation than portraying character of MT. I´m not sayin she´s bad but i thik she´s a bit lost between real MT and MS performance.

"I have found women in general to not be suited to higher office"? What the hell is even that??? Maggie Thatcher spoke proudly of women. Just because she didn't affirmative action hire them doesn't mean she didn't take pride in her gender. "It may be the cock that crows, but it's the hen that lays the eggs." "If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman." honestly. Also, Thatcher was incredibly nervous and respectful any time she was around the queen, so she would not have been able to speak this way to her. Even assuming those things were the kind of things Thatcher would really have said. They are not. Ugh, the writing and performance are so bad.

@TheDarkLordoftheInternet they made her a fragile, warmonger and vain woman
Grossartus 12 dögum síðan
@TheDarkLordoftheInternet probably not, but still they made more of a caricature than exploring her real views on social issues, to the point that based on this potray there is no reason for MT to get the order of merit from the queen other than out of pity and the only line the got 100% right was "this is a very different country now to the one inherited by our first woman priminister"
TheDarkLordoftheInternet 13 dögum síðan
@Grossartus I have heard that complaint before, but her sentiments didn't radically change in her 11 years in power. It was more a matter of style.
