I play Chess a lot, at a club, and on the Net, have won trophies in tournaments. I have NO doubt that Borgov is based on the late Soviet world champion, Tigran Petrosian, world champ in the 60s, and a very dour, tough, unsmiling player, who took no shit, and played a very hard, tough positional game. Borgov even looks like him, facially, almost the same face.

As much as I loved the whole show, I didnt quite like the part with Beth being surrounded by over-excited old fellas. That excessive display of emotions seems hardly real and a little bit chessy and forced. And it almost seems like a device to have this image constructed: an english speaking prodigy dressed in shiny white clothes descends to this russian grayscale enviroment to meet its senile inhabitants and get the awe and admiration she well damn deserves. It kinda brings to mind this banned cartoon from 40' "Scrub me Mama with a boogie beat". It appears to follow the trend of portraying russia in belittling tone which happens often in tv series these days. Other than that, I liked the ending very much :)

My grandfather taught me as a boy. In high school I was unbeatable. I started playing online and realised how weak I was. With time I lost patience and began playing blitz and then bullet instead of standard. I played for a couple of years on lichess, every day about 100 games and though my elo was between 1800 to 2000, sometimes when I played really well, I got such a high from success that I beat much stronger opponents and often won tournaments. In 2018 there was a bullet tournament and it was won by a guy named dr donkey or something. This guy got beaten a couple of times by gm macrofago who I remembered beating twice in ultrabullet a month before. I always thought the titles were fake but after seeing who the guy beat I had to check and they told me they were actually real and he was a real fide grandmaster. It might have been the proudest moment of my life. Not only because I beat a real grandmaster, but because the man who played under the dr donkey alias was no other than Magnus Carlsen. Can you guess which opening I used for literally every game? )

It's sad how back then it was such an accomplishment to win a chess game, but now it's barely heard of. Of course this is because competition between the USSR and the U.S. dialed down, since USSR did collapse, but still, wish it was still this big

This is the by far the best feminist film ever made. Not many writers are aware of letting strong females fail. Not to discriminate the other strong female character (who win every battle without fail) but when seeing even strongest of people fail, we learn how to get back up. Without understanding the importance of failure as women we would’ve struggled climbing our way back up to our goals. P.S. I have commented about show like 20 times. I’m way too addict.
