What’s Bridgerton based on? Adapted from Julia Quinn's bestselling novels, produced by Shonda Rhimes and narrated by Julie Andrews, it’s the Regency-era period drama we all need right now.

daphne might've been perfect for thaat era but why are tv shows still portraying someone like daphne as the lead?? eloise Penelope even the seamstress and opera singer were better than daphhnee.. women like daphne have no input in the society.. all they do is look for themselves and their family.. if we were to idiolize daphne we wouldn't have been going to the college yet lol..

No it isn't because there were no blacks in high society in England at that time. Why must diversity be inflicted on white countries? It is cultural appropriation of European heritage and black washing of our history. It is abusive towards us.

I really enjoyed “Bridgerton” - one thing though Daphne, Simon could still have been infertile, or was not that a known thing back then? 🤔 that was a weak point I think, the uh hum... “can’t have children” pretence was a bit too literal for my tastes... also; as someone who never wanted children, I was rather enjoying a story without that being the motivation for marriage. But, as per usual every woman on TV must want kids... 🙄 read a lot of comments about casting, didn’t bother me in the least! I loved Lady Danbury’s character & the lead male was brilliant (sorry, I don’t know his name!) chill people...
221BSam 18 dögum síðan
@MSTiPPYx3 oh yes, I completely agree about the naïveté - a very sheltered life.
MSTiPPYx3 19 dögum síðan
Such a good show! My thoughts: In the beginning, Daphne did think he was infertile because he said he couldn’t have children instead of he wouldn’t have children. As for can’t have children being literal, I think it’s a reminder of how innocent, naive, and lack of knowledge Daphne has when it came to sex and how reproduction worked. Hence, she had to ask her help for answers. She was so sheltered by her family that she believed everything Simon told her. As for having children, it was important to have an heir so I think it made sense.

Read the book promptly after binge watching Bridgerton on Netflix thinking the book would be as awesome as the show. I was sorely disappointed. Ridiculous and pathetic. Netflix's diversity agenda bores me and more. The series says once again more about the US-American society or better its ill relation with ethnicity than about the time it is supposed to portray. It's not only ridiculous and pathetic - it's dangerous, for it plays down the omnipresence of the most horrible racism of the so-called Western World in the 19th century. A time when blacks were exhibited to the fine European aristocracy like animals in zoos. And exploited and enslaved and hunted down in the colonies. Now, why don't go a step further and make a "romantic" series about a black SS-officer falling in love with a transgender Jew of Chinese heritage in Nazi Germany during the late 1930s? Hey, in the end it is only romantic fiction, right? Who cares about a little bit of historical accuracy?

Yes, it's based on Quinn's historical fiction, that is, her romance novels. It re-imagines history or provides an alternate reality in history that includes a established, mixed-race culture similar to today, as in "what if...?" P.S.: There was never any Queen Charlotte, but there was a princess royal Charlotte during the "Regency Period" of "Bridgerton" (formally, 1811-1820). She would eventually have become Queen Charlotte, as she was heiress to the throne, being the only daughter (and legitimate child) of the Prince Regent, the future King George IV (who had to take over during that time period from his father who was mentally incapacitated). Tragically, after finally having a very happy but very short marriage, Charlotte died just after giving birth to her still-born child (which it seems like the doctor botched, and he later committed suicide). George III--of American Revolution infamy--had four eldest sons (among 15 children), including future George IV, but none of them had any other legitimate children. One of them, Edward, quickly arranged a legal marriage, and his wife gave birth to a daughter; he died within a year afterward. So, in the subsequent line of succession, after George III, came his son George IV, then George's younger brother William IV, and then finally Edward's daughter, Victoria.
