This scene is the one --- one out of so many powerful ones from this season--- that affects/fascinates me the most. There's so much here. I've been looking for an 'anatomy of scene' online but haven't found any just yet. Anyone have any leads? Much appreciated!

He passed on the speech his father in law gave him to his daughter in law “she is the essence of your duty” no one else matters so you serve and support no matter what. He expects her to do the same as he did to his wife the queen never over shadow them you are there to play a role of a spouse not the monarch itself but Princess Diana is a Queen in her own right.

One of my favorite scenes in the show! The writing in this is so good! The callback to season 1 is a nice touch! 3:44 Also did you anyone notice how Diana jumped a bit when Philip said “come” Really showed how tense she was in the scene. Well done!

It’s a cult. This absurd reverence for ANYONE just because they happen to be born into a particular family. The only reason royalty is ‘special’ is because enough people agree to treat them as special.

The royal family orchestrated princess diana's death. 1. Four motorcycles were following Diana the whole night (Likely working with british special forces or M16) 2. There were 14 cameras in that tunel and not one of them was working and managed to capture the "accident"? 3. Multiple witnesses report seeing a bright white light right before the crash (brighter than a camera flash) which was likely a strobe light used to blind the driver. 4. The hospital was 10 minutes away from the crash sight, 20 at most with traffic. It took them over an hour to get there. 5. Just 10 months before Diana's death she wrote a note to a friend stating, and I quote, "Charles is planning a break failure, serious head injury to make way for camilla to marry" 6. Lets talk about the confusion in witness reports post crash: Initial reports claim that Diana was fine, and only appeared to have a broken leg. A sky news reporter recieved the official call stating that Dodi (Diana's spouse) had die, but Diana was fine and only suffered a concussion and a broken leg. Reasons: -Its no secret that Princess Diana was hated by the royal family. Prince Charles especially, as he wanted to marry Camilla before and after he married Diana. -Princess Diana was pregnant with Dodi's child, the royal family couldnt accept that a Egyptian muslim would eventually be the step dad of the future king of England. -Shortly before her death prince Phillip issued a threat against Diana after she stated that she wanted to seperate from Prince Charles. -If she was to divorce/or seperate from the marraige, which she did, she immediately became a threat to the throne. Coincidence? I think the fuck not. Long live Princess Diana, the queen of hearts, and rot in hell to every other member of the Royal family.

Reading these comments, I'm rather saddened that they never showed Philip and Diana being close in the series. As it currently stands, the way it's shown, he only interacts with her when he senses she's getting close to the breaking point and using their commonality of being outsiders to try to convince her to stay the course and rectify her thinking so that she realizes that the Queen is what she needs to focus on and how she either adds or detracts from her glory. Beyond that, she's a nonentity to him. Yet if they had actually taken the time, they could have made them good friends and they could have made this Prince Philip trying to use his friendship with Diana to help her. Which is a major issue I had with this last season. Since they wanted to do a full eleven years in 1 season, we don't spend enough time growing relationships beyond the very core characters. Such as when Prince Andrew shows up and we are supposed to be lead to understand that he's Elizabeth's favorite, frankly, I didn't know who he was when he first landed on the Castle grounds in the helicopter and was surprised that it wasn't Charles or Ann, with them being the only two children we've ever really paid any attention too.

Explain it to me like I'm five: Why were the Windsors so cool to Diana at Balmoral and eager for her to join the family, but then dodged her calls and ignored her presence entirely after the engagement? Why were they all so cold and mean to her at the end of the season back at Balmoral? It's like they were just trying to snare Charles a picture perfect wife and then were surprised when she expected any kind of connection or affection.

Charles needed heirs and to do that he needed a wife. The family wouldn't let Camilla be the wife so when somebody perfect came along (Diana) they immediately gushed on her and made sure to encourage romance between her and Charles. Once the heirs were born her usefulness expired and the family stopped caring about her, although as this scene suggests, they were still aware of her and some even felt for her, but not enough to help her

The casting in this is amazing but I really do think someone else could've played Diana. No offence to Emma she did a good job but I feel first of all she doesn't have Dianas features. Second she isn't nearly as soft in her approach as Diana was. Emma is obviously not shy like Diana was in real life and tries too hard often with throwing shy smiles at people etc. She makes some strange facial expressions and looks condescending when she's smiling rather than shy, a good example would be the recreation of the engagement interview. Dianas shy/uncomfortable laughter after Charles says "whatever in love means" vs Emmas death stare.

Prince Phillip was a modernist and he too had his difficulties with the monarchy and their old traditions that border lined on absurdity. So he understood Princess Diana's dilemma and tried to encourage her to be part of a changing attitude towards the institution. She did this in subtle ways with her two sons, but she herself was 'the' change. Haters like to ignore the facts, but she truly did change the royal family and in many ways so did Prince Phillip.

I find it odd that the Crown is written by Peter Morgan whom also wrote the movie the Queen, in the movie he depicts Prince Philip has not giving a rats ass about Diana and being completely indifferent and dismissive of her even in death, but in the Crown it shows that they had a fonder relationship and he was quite supportive of her. Guess maybe more research was done for the Crown, considering they use to still write letters to each other even after the divorce.
Omandita4 19 dögum síðan
In The Queen, Elizabeth reminds Philip that he was the most "enthusiastic" about the marriage, implying that at one time he had affection for Diana. Obviously, by the events of the movie, he was fed up with her.

I don't think the ending line in Prince Philip's dialogue was a fair portrayal of Lady Diana nor was the part when Lady Diana expresses her feelings about the environment she is in; I think she did respect the Queen otherwise she would not have gone to her for help with Prince Charles. I just think it was a clash of personalities and differing opinions.

Prince Phillip was the only member of the royal family who actually cared for Diana, he too was an outsider and wasn’t accepted for years, Phillip already had a difficult relationship with Charles anyway by this point so it wasn’t hard for him to see things from Diana’s view, he kept writing to her after the divorce and insisted on walking behind her coffin, and he also forced Charles to bring her body back from Paris, Phillip is many things but he’s fifty times better than Charles could ever be

For me this wasn't just the best scene of the season, but I may have to say of the entire series to date. Father and Daughter in-law, finally seeing each others true selves for the first time. Diana slowly coming to the realisation that she deserves more out of life then what shes been dealt. And if her husband let alone his family can't give her the love she deserves then she'll find it on her own, naturally. Philip realising that Diana can't be baited as the young naive girl anymore with false securities and how her priorities aren't that of the "standard" Royal protocol thus, questions her judgement (or lack there of, in his eyes). Brilliantly written and acted from start to finish. Emma and Tobias truly embraced their characters. It honestly did feel as though I was watching Prince Philip and Princess Diana have this discussion.

The problem Diana had was te fact that Charles didn't care about that marriage and never wanted it. So she could try so hard but it won't change a thing unless Charles would ve tried to fight for this marriage too. With Philip and the Queen it was different because they loved each other at least at the beggining and both of the cared for each other.
