Rather odd that "Maggie" and EIIR would clash, as they both are "Saturnian" ladies, born with the planet Saturn angular: EIIR (Saturn/Midheaven) and "Maggie" (Saturn/Ascendant), both possessing a reverent sense of Duty in their inherent nature. Clair Foy's portrayal of the rarely-ever-smiling EIIR is spot-on, though Alas!, I have only arrived at Season 2, Episode 1: "Misadventure" thus far and "Maggie" has not yet come-to-appear. Prince Philip, en route to age 100 on 10th of June, is depicted favorably, playing with the children (Moon in Leo) in many instances throughout the series. Transiting Neptune (18 Pisces) square Philip's natal Sun (19 Gemini) could spell a natural death (in his sleep/Neptune), though astrology tends to fair best in hindsight, rather than in foresight. I love the historical backdrop of the series, such as at current where I am in the series, with the Suez Canal Crisis. Why didn't Elizabeth II Regina ever marry "Porchey"? Season 1, Episode 8: "Pride & Joy" at timestamp 00:44:15 -- I cried. I've become such a crybaby since my Progressed Sun (birthed at 12 Capricorn) is now going through Pisces, sigh.

Not saying everything she achieved was without merit, but Thatcher was clearly tyrannical, massively egotistic and deliberately stubborn. The Queen done well to ride the waves she caused in the 80’s without really losing too much face. Personally, I would have played one of my ‘accident or heart attack free wildcard’ by about 1983 😉.

5:03 Murdoch did not have "control over the country's media" just a relatively small though influential part: he owned The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and the News of the World. There was no BSkyB back then and by far the biggest media player was the BBC! They were far more powerful in Britain than Rupert Murdoch has ever been!

We all still benefit from Thatcher's polices in the UK. From Unions not holding the country to ransom at a whim, from the amazing benefits normal people had when they could buy their council houses (my grandparents included), from helping create the best financial hub and sector in the world that our public services reply on for their tax revenue funding. Of course she got things wrong and ex-mining communities still are deprived. But very bitter socialists who can't face the fact that socialism died in the 1980s will never forgive her. If you are a young person growing up in the UK, and listen to the BBC you would think she was not popular. She won 3 general elections and then Major won after her. The bitter leftists are just very loud.

This "tension" is a total fabrication. Thatcher was appointed Lady of the Garter and awarded the Order of Merit, the highest honour in the land and the exclusive gift of the Sovereign. Furthermore HM the Queen attended The Baroness Thatchers funeral, only the second PM to receive such honour since Winston Churchill himself. Scarcely the actions of one with intense dislike for the other.
StimParavane
StimParavane Mánuði síðan
Thatcher sold council houses on the cheap, privatized state industries on the cheap, wasted £100bn of North Sea oil revenues on tax cuts, and then claimed there was some sort of economic revolution even though in retrospect her policies just made the rich richer at the expense of the nation. She set out to smash the unions, had no sympathy for the massive unemployment caused by her mismanagement, and didn't even care about the decline of manufacturing industry and the impact on the Northern communities it affected. The worst aspect was the "Big Bang" deregulation of the City which directly led to the reckless behavior of investment banks and the subsequent stock market crashes. Smoke and mirrors. She was a callous, arrogant, and self-serving idealogue who could not even understand why the poll tax was hated, and why she was detested by anyone not motivated by greed, selfishness, and the acquisition of power.
Sleep Cove

@StimParavane everyone had the option to buy their council house. The city pays for a lot of social policies and welfare. It would in France or Germany if not London. Sorry you are jealous of it.

@Sleep Cove You mean you and your family did OK under Thatcher. Yes, she rewarded the people who voted for her but screwed the rest of the country. Well done. I'm sure you're proud of yourself for your self-serving way of life. I'm ashamed of the 40% of the country who voted for her nasty ideology. As I said, she wasted £100bn of oil revenues instead of investing them for the benefit of the whole nation like Norway has done. And, by deregulating the City created the conditions for the subsequent stock market crashes but hey, you don't give a shit about anyone else as there's "no such thing as society" in Thatcher's world view. Who are you people? Have a look at a documentary on youtube called The Spider's Web which reveals a lot about the influence the City of London has on our politics.

They bring in approximately 550 million pounds due to tourism of their palaces and castle according to Brand Finance report. They contributed a total of 1.8 billion pounds to the UK economy in 2017. So technically they are worth the 100 million pounds when they directly return five and half times directly from visits and eighteen times that number to the UK economy.
