Also, the only time we see the Queen's Gambit Accepted being played, that's the last match between Harmon and Borgov, where Beth crashes Vasily.

IMO Queens Gambit is best w/o a season 2 but I SO want to see her and Benny “live happily ever after” *barf* I know how cheesy or cringy or wtv that sounds but their chemistry was off the charts and I wish there was more written into their relationship, then again it would take away from the main focus of the show, that being chess and character arc ofc

Couldn’t agree more. I love how the show confuses on chess and not romance.

I love how at the very end, she says "сыграем" (let's play) in perfect Russian, even though when she said "особенно эту" (especially that one) referring to the chess game against Borgov in Mexico city she had a really strong accent. It probably shows that she has been keeping up her Russian studies!

Let us also remember that when they are in Vegas, Benny mentions the Queens Gambit Declined (a chess move) just before Beth walks by and he claims not to remember meeting her before. I thought that was a cute nod.

This might be a reach but : When she wondered why Benny was carrying a weapon and he answered "for safety/whatever might come" and then when she went to the USSR and was picked up by the man, she saw that he had a gun with him and they also focused on the gun in that scene. Maybe she got a flashback about Benny or did it have something to do with each other ?

It is called the "Queen's Gambit" not only because she plays the opening in her final match against Borgov, but also because she is the "Queen," gambitting her life away to alcoholism and the green pills for the sake of success.

Some of these were just obvious, or irrelevant, like the colors she played in her first and last games of the series. Here's one nobody's pointed out: The first chess position shown in the series is the name of the series. When she first sees Mr Shaibel in the basement, the position on the board is a Queen's Gambit.

7 episodes. 7 squares for pawn to queen?! It's 5 'moves' for the pawn to queen. 6 if the pawn gives up it's two square advance. There are 7 squares in a single file starting from 2-8.

And the part where she confronted her "father" about the house- the camera went below her and above him gradually as she spoke and then stayed there. It gave the feeling that a mighty being was towering over him. It was intimidating- like when the queen threatens a lesser piece or when the pawn makes it to the top of the board and becomes a sudden threat.

I feel like the ending could've been better if Mr. Shaibel didn't die. My version of the alternate ending would be where he has dementia for a while and doesn't remember much. After Beth won against Borgov, she returned to meet Mr. Shaibel in a nursing home. He doesn't exactly remember who she is but he offers her to play chess with him. And then they're playing chess as the closing scene.

In an early scene Beth is torn between being late for Geography class and Mr Sheibel telling her to sit and play. He says: "Now or never!". Beth uses the same line on Harry after his first feeble attempt to kiss her. She tells him that she wasn't ready yet. But after a long pause she says: Now or never!".

Loved these details! One of the little things I noticed was that at the end of the last episode she is wearing a green top underneath her "white queen" outfit. As she gets out of the car she casually buttons up her white coat. I feel like it's another subtle way of showing that she overcame her addictions that held her back, ultimately becoming the "white queen."

The score also uses 'pointy' staccato flutes in tense moments during a match. This compositional device is also what marks Eric Satie's piece for Piano: Gnossienne No.1

Much of the brilliant movie score is derived from the dreamy yet haunting tune that Mrs. Wheatley plays on the piano in the living room. It is Gnossienne No.1 by Eric Satie. It is most notable when they check into their first hotel room in Cincinnati and Mrs. Wheatley approves of the bed and says: "That'll do".
